Sex, drugs, violence, and naked nuns – what more is there to say about this throwback to the grindhouse films of the 60s and 70s? It’s not that Nude Nuns With Big Guns is really trying to obviously emulate those films, like the Tarantino/Rodriguez double feature or Machete, insomuch as it actually is one of those films, consciously or not. A lurid, and obviously offensive tale about a monastery and convent involved in an illicit heroin trade with a violent motorcycle gang known as Los Muertos while using strung out nuns to do their drug handling, Nude Nuns follows the tale of one nun, Sister Sarah (Asun Ortega), on her violent path of vengeance against those who killed her fellow sisters. In particular, she has her sights set on two men, Father Carlittos (Perry D’Marco) and the leader of Los Muertos, Chavo (David Castro). If you like naked women, lots of violence, hot lesbian sex, and cliché characters, then basically this is the film for you.
Nude Nuns With Big Guns looks about as bad as the story sounds, as one might expect. If you don’t come into this expecting to be blown away with a spectacular reference quality image, then you won’t be disappointed. Believe it or not, I’ve seen much worse, however, and this AVC/MPEG-4 1080p encodement from Image actually suits the material well. There is an average amount of detail, though the image does get rather soft quite often and there is some obvious video noise throughout.
Audio is worse than the image quality, actually. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack doens’t have much activity in the surround channel at all, but that isn;t the real issue. The biggest problem is that the musical soundtrack sounds a bit muffled and dialogue has too much room ambience, therefore voices never achieve a real sense of fullness.
You might as well skip the supplements on here as they only included the original ~four-minute short film and trailer for Nude Nuns With Big Guns.

The Definitive Word
Fans of exploitation flicks might find something to like here and, who knows, maybe someday this might actually become some sort of cult classic. It has all the outrageous elements that usually make films cult classics, but these things take time and a generation or two.
