No amount of enticing visual effects can save this sappy melodrama, which seems tailor-made for tweens in search of the next fantasy saga to replace Twilight.
This wuxia twist on Romeo and Juliet is rooted in a Chinese legend, but despite the stunning visuals from director Ma Jingle, it fails to evoke the tragic romance due to bad casting and a poorly fleshed out story.
